Looking at the International Society for Technology in Education

Most districts in the country (and many in the world) have adopted the International Society for Technology in Education standards for students, teachers and administrators. These standards guide what students should be able to do with technology. Take a little time to explore the NETS Standards for Teachers and Students. You may explore the NETS standards at www.iste.org

Welcome to Glogster!

Gone are the days of cutting out magazine pictures and glueing them to poster board!! Glogster is a great online (web 2.0) tool that allows students to create posters using multimedia. Students can use video, text, audio, sound, etc.

Students can get caught up in Glogster because it is fun to use and allows them to be very creative. When you create a rubric to assess a Glogster project, it is important to focus on the content. Students need to be taught that even the background of the poster should relate to the topic of the "poster". If they are using music/sounds/videos, all of those should easily relate to the topic and not be distracting. Consider creating these elements in the rubric to help students think critically about their poster and analyze all the items they are adding to it.

Your Assignment:
  • Go to www.glogster.com. You will need to create an account to proceed. Please note, you can sign up for an education version of glogster but this usually takes some time to get approved. If using this with your students, you will want to use the education version. For this project, you can use the non-education version, just be aware that some content may not be appropriate for students.
  • EXPLORE: If you want, explore some of the examples created on Glogster. You can also explore the examples below created by students in past classes.
  • Please note: If you teach smaller children, you may want to create a Glog for them to explore. In other words, there would be no rubric since they are not creating the content. A glogster could be used as a center to explore a topic since they are interactive.
  • CREATE: Create your Glogster using the resources that will relate to your content you are wanting your students to explore/study.
  • SAVE: Once you are done, you will have to save your Glog. You cannot download your Glog. Once you have saved it, please provide the link to your blog by uploading it to the GLOGSTER Assignment on Edmodo. The tag for this is "glog"

Augmented Reality

What is Augmented reality and how can it be used in your classroom? Today we will look at some examples of Augmented Reality and some uses in Education.

You can search Google for hundreds of uses for Augmented Reality, but here are a few you may want to check out. If you don't find something for your subject, check out Google for tons of AR resources!
Augmented Reality Apps

Below are a few AR apps and resources we will use in class as examples of Augment Reality
  • Anatomy4d- Great app for Science in middle/high school. You can scan the heart or human body resource to discover content
    • Anatomy 4d AR image.PNG Anatomy 4d AR image 1.PNG
  • AR Flashcards--Great app for elementary (more pre-school/kindergarten). You will need to print out the flashcards you want from the AR Flashcards website. Check back often as they add flashcards from time to time. You can download the PDF flashcards here depending on which ones you want. | |
  • Layar-- This app shows more the power of what you can do with Augmented Reality. Scanning this resource will make the still image come alive.
    • Augmented Reality File for Layar.JPG
  • HeartCam--Heartcam gives you an glimpse into the Human Heart
